A skeptic towards the myth of the mermaid supposedly inhabiting the island. David finds himself an unlikely convert when he nets one, Mina, during a fishing sortie in the high seas. Soon enough, he is smitten by Mina's charms and a romance develops between them. All seems well until pestillence and plague descend upon the seafaring island folk. A curse the fisherfolk believe to have been brought about by David's forbidden liaisons with Mina.
